(Update: Thank you to everyone who came out to Eat My Blog on Saturday! We had a great time, sampled lots of goodies, and brought in just over $3,000 for the LA Regional Foodbank. Keep an eye out for more info on our second Eat My Blog in Summer 2010!)
Picture it: West Hollywood, December 5th, 2009 (please tell me someone gets my Golden Girls references?). A group of food bloggers stand outside a restaurant for six hours and raise several thousand dollars for charity.
Of course, this hasn’t happened yet, but hopefully, it will! And we’ll raise the money the tastiest way possible—with a bake sale, of course.
Welcome to Eat My Blog—a way for blog readers to finally taste what they’ve been reading about, and most importantly, an opportunity to give back to the community. Founded by Cathy (gastronomyblog.com) and organized by Diana (dianatakesabite.blogspot.com), Anjali (www.deliciouscoma.com) and me, Laurie aka G-Ma, the bake sale will feature over 50 different types of goodies, and all proceeds will be donated the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
On December 5th, Zeke’s Smokehouse in West Hollywood (7100 Santa Monica Blvd.) will host our bake sale on their patio from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All items will be priced at $1, $2, and $3, and additional donations to the Foodbank are totally welcome. And thanks to the awesome PR powers of bloggers, we have sponsors! Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will provide us with fresh coffee to sell, Challenge Dairy gave all of the bloggers butter to bake with (how cool is that?), and several local bakeries and businesses have graciously donated packaging materials for all of the goodies that you’ll be buying (wink).
So come on down to Santa Monica Boulevard next Saturday for a chance to meet us (lucky you!) and sample treats like honey bee cookies, cinnamon chocolate mini bundt cakes, black sesame cupcakes with matcha frosting, bacon brownies with bourbon caramel sauce, and orange and saffron soft caramels. We’re bakers and food bloggers and we think we’re sweet—did you expect us to make anything ordinary? Click here for a full menu.
I’ll be making whoopie pies, of course. Exposing Angelenos to the glories of Pennsylvania Dutch cooking with vegetable shortening, one person at a time.

If I’m able to go, I hope to buy & taste your sweets.
you’d better arrive early–i’m only making three dozen whoopie pies! hope to see you there!
Good luck tomorrow…hope you sell out.
thanks, mom, i hope we do too!
Your mom turned out to bee a prophet and you sold out.
Unfortunately… for me! At least I got Catherine’s apricots. Next time I’ll get there early, like 7am!
However, thank you for guarding my box of goodies from all the sweet tooth’s around while I took pics.
you’re welcome! next time, i’ll save you a whoopie pie.
Hi Laurie! Sorry I didn’t make it back for the macaroons… any chance you could point me in the direction of those recipes? Thanks for offering gluten free goodies, I’d love to bake something for the next one. Congrats on it being such a huge success!
hi heather! Food, she thought ended up bringing a few bags later on, and i actually saved one for you! they got squashed while sitting in my purse, so i brought them home and tasted them, and they were yummy. i couldn’t find the recipe on Food, she thought’s blog, but i’m sure you could ask her for the recipe. http://www.foodshethought.blogspot.com/ when you get it, let me know, as i’d love to have it as well! thanks for stopping by–we had a great time, and we’ll be back summer 2010!
